Psychological Issues On The Part Of the Patient

Everyone does not react in a similar pattern to intestinal surgeries. Some might take it up as a challenge, while some other might consider it fearful; somebody else may accept it as life-saving. Each one has their own opinion in adapting to the policies and consequent results of the operation.

·         Body image or self-esteem business

Subtle changes in the body might occur. Actually, it depends on how quickly and normally the patient adapts himself or her to the changes brought about in the body. Already there is a fear of losing an organ. Patients are asked to behave bravely. While gaining an insight into the patient’s thought process, it will be noticed that to some the surgery will be accepted with a heavy heart; while some other may be happy with the temporary relief that the surgery will provide.

·         Relationship concerns

Patients may fear the fact that they will not be socially accepted as they were before. In order to deal with the society, the first and foremost step should be to give the people around you an idea of colostomy surgery. It is better to be selective in sharing your life events than to speak up to the whole crowd regarding your operation.

·     Self-care concerns

Patients will be given a guideline on taking care of own self so that they can manage minor issues themselves. Basic lessons on anatomy and physiology will be provided for the better understanding of their surgery.
